چکیده

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a very powerful technique for materials characterization, providing information relating to morphology, composition, and crystal structure. Selected area diffraction patterns (SADPs) are crystallographic data that can be obtained using a TEM instrument. Conventional identification through SADP/TEM is tricky and tedious, thereby increasing the difficulty of phase identification. To establish a procedure for phase identification of known and unknown phases, in this study we examined two samples: one, a known phase, was Si with <100> alignment; the other, unknown, was the TixOy phase at the 96.4Au-3Ni-0.6Ti interlayer/ yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) interface of a steel/96.4Au-3Ni-0.6Ti interlayer/YSZ joint. The procedures for phase identification of the known and unknown phases are described herein using a series of SADPs and energy dispersive spectrometry within TEM that would be useful for general researchers.

Electron Diffraction Study on Fe–Zn intermetallic Phase of a Galvannealed IF Steel Sheet

In order to investigate the structure of Fe–Zn phase in a commercial galvannealed IF steel sheet, the electron diffraction and composition of phase in a commercial galvannealed IF steel sheet were studied by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX). The cross-sectional TEM specimen was prepared using focused ion beam (FIB) technique which was also in...

Growth of tetragonal SnO2 microcubes and their characterization

Single-crystalline SnO2 microcubes were grown using the hydrothermal method without any catalyst. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis verified that the cubes are tin dioxide SnO2. Their morphology and structure was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), and Raman 5m...

Joining of TiAl to Steel by Diffusion Bonding with Ni/Ti Reactive Multilayers

Dissimilar diffusion bonds of TiAl alloy to AISI 310 stainless steel using Ni/Ti reactive multilayers were studied in this investigation. The Ni and Ti alternating layers were deposited by d.c. magnetron sputtering onto the base materials, with a bilayer thickness of 30 and 60 nm. Joining experiments were performed at 700 and 800 ̋C for 60 min under pressures of 50 and 10 MPa. The effectiveness...

Ag dendrite-based Au/Ag bimetallic nanostructures with strongly enhanced catalytic activity.

Dendritic Ag/Au bimetallic nanostructures have been synthesized via a galvanic replacement reaction (GRR) of Ag dendrites in a chlorauric acid (HAuCl4) solution. After short periods of time, one obtains structures with protruding flakes; these will mature into very porous structures with little Ag left over. The morphological, compositional, and crystal structural changes involved with reaction...

Epitaxial multilayered Co/Cu ferromagnetic nanocolumns grown by oblique angle deposition

Slanted Co/Cu multilayer nanocolumns were grown on Si and gold-coated Si substrates by two-source oblique-angle vapour deposition. The respective column lengths and layer thicknesses were varied from ∼400 to ∼700 nm and ∼6 to ∼16 nm. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images show the column diameters to be less than 65 nm. The ferromagnetic nature ...
